Business Studies

STVT’s business course in Texas provides students with an opportunity to learn about business administration, customer service, accounting, sales and marketing, project management, and entrepreneurship.

Our career training program in business offers education by industry-experienced professionals who provide insight into common workplace practices. Students will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the tools and processes used in modern business accounting, customer service, administration, and more.

Training to Become a Business Professional

Our business professional courses  can help you become an essential member of an office team. Students who complete this program are prepared to perform general office duties, set goals and deadlines for departments, and compile information and records to draw up purchase orders for procurement.

What Do Business Professionals Do?

Students can expect their job duties to vary depending on the industry  they enter. The possibilities are too many to list, but here are some tasks students may encounter in the workplace.

Administrative Duties

Graduates of our business administration training in Texas may perform “admin work” as part of their career. Students could expect tasks such as the following to be listed in business job descriptions:

  • Typing or word processing
  • Maintain and update filing, inventory, mailing, and databases
  • Schedule appointments and receive customers or visitors
  • Obtain information, send correspondence, or perform data entry

Communication Duties

Communication and discussion happens in almost every workplace. As part of their work, STVT graduates could be asked to:

  • Communicate with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions
  • Provide general information to staff, clients, or the public
  • Answer telephones, direct calls, and take messages.

Accounting Duties

This type of work will vary by company and industry. Students could be asked to complete transactions in a Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)-compliant manner, and maintain purchase records. Some other tasks could include:

  • Take purchase requests from various departments within a company
  • Get price quotes from suppliers
  • Maintain and review purchasing files and price-lists
  • Bookkeeping and compiling business transactions

Business Professional Requirements

The State of Texas does not mandate a particular license or approval to work as a business generalist. The STVT Business Studies program prepares you for an entry-level business position, and our business courses focus on skills and tasks common to many workplaces. Our goal is to prepare students for success wherever they choose to work.

Is a Business Professional A Good Career For Me?

How do you know if business training is the right fit for you? Here are some things to consider:

  • You are good at data entry
  • You enjoy solving problems
  • You are organized
  • You work well in a business setting

If this type of work environment sounds appealing to you, business administration could be a great career choice.

How Much Money Do Business Studies Graduates Make?

The median hourly wage for general office clerks was $15.74 in May 2018. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $9.84, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $25.73. These wages can vary based on your position, your schedule and your individual duties in the office. As part of your total compensation offer, you might be eligible for a variety of benefits, such as vacation or sick time, flexible working hours, insurance, and a stable work/life balance. Each position is different, so it is a good idea to weigh all your options when presented with a job opportunity.*
