STVT is hosting Weld Wars 2026, a regional welding competition where high school students put their skills to the test in a fast-paced, hands-on event where sparks fly. Competitors will take on timed welding challenges focused on technique, accuracy, and safety while experiencing the energy of real-world training in the skilled trades.
The event is also open to the public from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, and the community is invited to attend, cheer on competitors, and experience the excitement firsthand. Families, friends, employers, and local community members are encouraged to join us for a day of competition, activities, and campus tours.
Attendees can enjoy:

Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors only and are subject to eligibility requirements. Tuition scholarships require recipients to apply to and be accepted into an eligible program at South Texas Vocational Technical Institute (STVT) and to meet all applicable admission requirements. Tuition scholarship amounts are based on the tuition cost of the Combination Welding program; enrollment in a higher-cost program may result in additional tuition expenses for the student. Tuition scholarships must be used within one year of high school graduation and are not applicable to clock hour programs. Non-graduating participants are not eligible for scholarship awards. Additional terms and conditions may apply.
