School Is the Sixth STVT Campus in Texas and Is Part of the Ancora Network of Post-Secondary Vocational Schools and Workforce Training Programs
(ARLINGTON, TX) September 28, 2023 – Arlington’s EdgeTech Academy is getting a new name and a new look October 1 when it rebrands as South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, or STVT-Arlington. STVT-Arlington will mark the start of this new chapter with a community celebration November 15th from noon to 3:00 p.m. at the rebranded campus, which provides workforce training and other post-secondary educational programs to North Texans. STVT-Arlington becomes the sixth STVT campus in the state, joining STVT locations in Brownsville, McAllen, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Weslaco.
“As industry and the population of North Texas continue to grow, it just makes sense to bring the success of STVT to Arlington and the region. Our STVT graduates in South Texas are doing amazing things. They are working in healthcare facilities. They are CDL graduates working as Amazon delivery drivers. They are welding graduates working at SpaceX. These individuals have meaningful careers and are an essential part of the South Texas economy. We want to capitalize on these achievements by expanding and bringing this same STVT energy to North Texas,” said Daylan Childress, Vice President of Operations for Ancora, parent company of STVT.
In October, STVT will celebrate 50 years of educating and training Texans and providing a path for careers that can change their lives while also helping meet the needs of industry across the state. STVT started in Brownsville in 1973 as a language academy teaching English as a Second Language and Spanish and has since grown into one of the state’s leading workforce training providers.
“Our goal is to make STVT part of the fabric of North Texas by bringing education, the foundation of a meaningful career, to the communities we serve in Arlington and beyond. Our students leave STVT with the training to become the people they are meant to become, setting them on a path to earn an income that allows them to provide for themselves and their families,” said Jennie Adams, Executive Director at STVT-Arlington. “I am proud to be a part of this exciting new chapter at STVT-Arlington and look forward to expanding our reach throughout North Texas.”
STVT is part of the Ancora network of post-secondary vocational schools and one of the nation’s leading workforce training providers. Since opening its doors 50 years ago, nearly 40,000 individuals have graduated from an STVT program. In addition to the training it provides, STVT is a steady employer in the region, having employed close to 1,200 people since its founding.
The History of STVT
STVT began operations in October 1973 as the Texas Language Academy offering English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish. Over the years as industry grew in the Rio Grande Valley, the school expanded beyond teaching languages at a single school by adding more campuses and new educational and workforce training offerings to help meet regional demand.
The name officially changed to South Texas Vocational Technical Institute in 1982 and today the school network continues to meet the needs of the regional economies it serves by providing a qualified, skilled workforce in a slew of fields from skilled trades like welding, HVAC and automotive, to other training programs in CDL, healthcare, dental, business studies, medical coding and more.
STVT-Arlington is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. STVT-Arlington does not guarantee employment or salary.
