Our History
South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, formerly Edge Tech Academy, is part of Ancora Education, a system of 23 schools throughout the United States. After researching the local job market, Edge Tech Academy set out to start an accelerated training center that focused on meeting the entry-level technical and programming needs of local and national employers. In 2016, the school opened in Hurst, TX and obtained approval by the Texas Workforce Commission and the Accrediting Commission for Career Schools and Colleges for Edge Tech Academy as a branch campus of Platt College in Tulsa, OK. In 2017, the Software Development program was first offered. In 2018, the Software Development program changed its name to Web and App Development. The first graduating class graduated in April 2018. In July 2019, Edge Tech Academy moved from Hurst Arlington Texas. In 2019, Edge Tech Academy began offering the CDL Training: Class A Tractor Trailer, CNC Machinist, Cyber Security, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Basic Refrigeration, and Mechatronics programs.. In 2021, Edge Tech Academy became a branch campus of Miller-Motte College in Chattanooga. In 2021, they began offering Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Clinical Assistant and PC & Network Support Technician programs. In October of 2023, Edge Tech Academy changed its name to South Texas Vocational Technical Institute. In April 2025, Ancora Education, including STVT was purchased by Lindenwood Education System.

Certification/licensure requirements for taking and passing certification/licensure examinations are not controlled by STVT but by outside agencies and are subject to change by the agencies without notice to STVT. Therefore, STVT cannot guarantee that graduates will be eligible to take certification/licensure examinations, regardless of their eligibility status upon enrollment.
