Clinical medical assistants are healthcare professionals who help nurses, physicians, and other healthcare staff provide quality care for patients. They are often one of the first faces patients see, and remain in the room to assist physicians throughout patient exams. They can clarify any questions a patient may have about tests, medications, and physician instructions so the patient has the information to advocate for themselves.

For a more in-depth answer to this question, read our What Is a Medical Clinical Assistant blog.

Clinical medical assistants are medical assistants who specialize in clinical tasks.

Like medical assistants, clinical medical assistants are also trained to handle common administrative tasks like medical billing and coding, appointment scheduling, restocking inventory, and more. However, clinical medical assistants tend to spend most of their day taking patient vital signs, helping physicians during exams, gathering blood samples, updating patient charts, and more.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), it can take up to two years to become a medical assistant. The length can vary based on the award type and school. At STVT, you can complete our Medical Clinical Assistant program in 13 months.

According to a May 2022 report published by the BLS, on average, Texas has the second highest medical assistant employment level across the nation.

At STVT, we combine interactive environments with hands-on classes and industry-experienced instructors to help you make the most of our program.
