A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is a special driver’s license required in the U.S. to operate large or heavy commercial vehicles, such as trucks, buses, and tractor-trailers, especially when they are used for business or transport of passengers or hazardous materials.
A CDL Class B is a commercial driver’s license that allows you to drive single, large vehicles (not combination trucks) with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more.
The biggest difference between Class A and B is the kind of vehicles the drivers can operate and where they drive. Class A CDLs allow drivers to operate both single and combination vehicles, while a Class B only allows drivers to operate single vehicles. Those with a Class B tend to work locally, and those with a Class A can drive across the country.
