If you’re seeking to study skilled trades in Texas, consider STVT’s skilled trade and welding programs. And don’t worry, you can get the skills that today’s employers are looking for in less time than you think.

Students in our skilled trades programs can expect hands-on learning opportunities and detailed reviews of safety procedures related to their trade. Many of our programs offer both lab and lecture hours, providing students with the opportunity to practice their craft under the guidance of industry-experienced instructors.

Select programs offer career planning as part of the curriculum. Students in these programs will learn how to write a resume and cover letter, search for job leads, prepare for an interview, follow-up after an interview, and plan for trade career advancement.

Trade School Programs in TX

Our trade courses in Texas prepare students for entry-level employment in their chosen field. Each program emphasizes safety within the workplace and learning skills from industry-experienced professionals.

Air Conditioning, Heating, & Refrigeration

Our HVAC training focuses on installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of systems, including heating and air conditioning systems, coolers, chillers, icemakers, and more. Students will also study some of the physics behind cooling and heating so that they can better understand how these systems work. If you enjoy keeping things cool, this could be the career for you.

Automotive Service Technology

The Automotive Service Technician (AST) diploma program is designed to prepare students for a career in the automotive service industry. Classes combine theory with practical application of hands-on skills. 

All courses include the use of hand specialty tools, and emphasize equipment and shop safety procedures. The AST program is intended for persons with high school diploma or GED who desire a career inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, and repairing vehicles in an automotive environment.

Combination Welding

Our Combination Welding (CW) diploma program teaches students shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) and plasma arc cutting (PAC). The CW program is intended for persons who desire a career in the Welding industry. The CW graduate may be qualified for entry-level employment in building construction, shipbuilding, manufacturing, gas and oil field services, and as welding operators.

Commercial Driving License/CDL

The CDL Training: Class A Tractor Trailer training curriculum provides students with training to inspect and operate tractor-trailers, and to assume driver responsibilities on the road and at pickup/delivery points. All training, instruction, and testing is done at school facilities and with school-provided equipment. The final credential received for this program is a certificate.

Diesel – Heavy Truck

STVT’s Diesel Heavy Truck (DHT) diploma program is designed to prepare students for a career in the diesel medium-heavy truck technician industry. Classes combine theory with practical application of hands-on job skills. Courses include the use of hand and specialty tools and emphasize equipment and shop safety procedures. 

The DHT diploma program is intended for students who desire a career inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, and repairing diesel powered machines. The DHT diploma graduate may be qualified for entry-level employment in general diesel medium/heavy truck service positions. As an entry-level diesel-heavy truck technician, the DHT graduate may work with both computerized and mechanical systems.
